MCM Japan Ltd has released a new model of its M Powered LED lantern, whose battery can be powered by using sunlight.
The M Powered is for outdoor use, disaster prevention and daily use. The new product, M Powered Lux Hello Kitty, uses the design of Hello Kitty, the popular character created by Sanrio Co Ltd. The manufacture’s suggested retail price of the product is ¥4,000 (excluding tax).
The M Powered was developed for 1.5 billion people who live without electricity in many countries and regions. It is currently being used by 1.25 million people in more than 110 countries via more than 250 NGOs (nongovernmental organization). With solar cells attached to the top surface of the main unit, its lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery can be fully charged by direct sunlight in seven hours. When the lantern is fully charged, it can power the LED lamp for four to 24 hours.
The M Powered is equipped with 10 warm-color LEDs, and its maximum brightness is 65lm. It can be used in four modes (weak, medium, strong and blinking modes). It also has a simple LED for showing the remaining battery level.
The lantern complies with IP67 waterproof standards and can be used outdoors and as indirect lighting in a bathroom. It is used after being inflated with air and can be folded by deflating it when not in use. The diameter and height of the main unit are 12.7cm and 10.8cm, respectively. Its weight is about 125g.
The new model is sold in online stores including Plus One dot Shop and Sanrio Online Shop and at Sonae Cafe in Sona Area Tokyo, the Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park.
