Ousmane Dembele in action for Borussia Dortmund
Barcelona’s pursuit of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele has stepped up a notch after their sporting director reportedly held a meeting with his agent.
The Spanish club have been linked with a potential move for Dembele this summer following an eye-catching first season in the Bundesliga.
Barca were impressed by how the 20-year-old dealt with the step up from Rennes to Borussia Dortmund this term, during which he scored six goals in 32 league outings.
Dembele is also considered one of the cornerstones of the new, young France national team set-up alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe.
As such, Dortmund are desperate not to lose him this summer but that will not prevent clubs like Barca from trying to prise him away.
And, according to Marca, the La Liga club’s sporting director Robert Fernandez held a meeting with Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko to discuss a potential deal.
It has been reported that Barca would need to pay £79.25m in order to sign him, which would smash the previous record for any other Bundesliga player.
That figure is not out of reach for Barca and it could also tempt City, Liverpool or Chelsea into a bid of their own.
All three clubs could realistically afford to shell out that much on such a talented prospect, whose value is only expected to rise over the next five years or so.
