LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday put forward two names for the slot of caretaker chief minister after withdrawing its earlier candidate.
Talking to media, former opposition leader of Punjab Assembly and PTI leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed shared that the party has nominated Orya Maqbool Jan and Yaqoob Izhar for the post.
The former opposition leader said he held a meeting with the speaker of the now-dissolved Punjab Assembly during which it was decided that a name for the caretaker chief minister would be decided by Sunday.
“The caretaker chief minister for Punjab would be finalised by June 3,” the PTI leader said.
However, he added, meetings over the matter would continue to take place until the final call is made.
Rasheed said the new names were presented to the former speaker after discussion among party members.
A day earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which was in the opposition in Punjab Assembly, proposed the names of defence analyst Dr Hassan Askari and former inspector general of police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nasir Khan Durrani. The latter excused himself from candidature citing health issues as the reason.
