Interest high in Pentangular Cup

KARACHI: The seventh edition of the NBP Disabled T20 Pentangular Cup, set to commence from September 17 at Karachi’s Rashid Latif Cricket Academy, will have representation from all five regions and also feature fresh talent.

Thanks to the successful staging of the past six tournaments, the upcoming instalment has garnered unprecedented interest and attracted many new players, per Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) Secretary Amiruddin Ansari.

“All five participating regions — Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, KPK and Fata — have been active throughout the year, setting up trials and in turn attracting more players,” he said.

The bigger tournament will now make the PDCA selectors’ task much easier when picking national squads in future.

“The increasing numbers will be a huge help for PDCA in selecting the team for future international tours,” said Ansari.

With the talent pool now rich enough, Ansari is confident the team can take the next step in its development and become a top contender globally.

“We have already been doing well internationally and with the increasing number of players, we will be able to become the top team,” said Ansari, who now seeks better equipment and facilities for new recruits so they can further improve their skills.

The PDCA Secretary also thanked tournament sponsors National Bank of Pakistan, International Committee of the Red Cross, Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the media for their unwavering support that has elevated the disabled game to this level.

“We hope that these joint efforts for this cause will continue further,” added Ansari.
